Koh Samui is known
for it's white-sand beaches, deserted little coves, balmy waters,
coconut plantations, rice paddies and more recently...tourism and
nightlife. Located in the Gulf of Thailand, it is 84 kms. off the coast
of Suratthani and about 560 Kms. south of Bangkok. Samui is the largest
in a group of more than 80 tropical isles, many of them uninhabited.
Samui is Thailand's third largest island, covering a total area of 247
kms. A mountain ridge runs east to west and most of the hinterlands are
forested. The rich hues of wild vegetation are dappled throughout with
coconut palms and emerald paddies. Besides fishing, coconut cultivation
is the principal source of livelihood for the islanders. If you are
looking to escape cold weather, the islands climate is tropical-warm
throughout the year. |
